WELCOME TO THE HATCH FAMILY GATHERING BLOG

We have descended from an amazing family that has a story worthy of telling. The purpose of this blog is to provide and avenue to tell that story and easy access for our family to share family history. We can collect and share stories, memories, and photos of our family here. I have provided tabs on the top for individual families to record their own memories or update everyone on their individual families if desired. I also have provided the tabs of Hatch, Miles, Taggart, and Laird for sharing family records according to their lines. Desond Tutu once said, "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them." I am glad we can remember our family together and honor them, as they are worthy of being honored.

Last week Tricia found this wonderful site about the Lairds. : http://www.lairdfamily.org/index.html
Check it out. It has some wonderful pictures of my Grandpa and Grandma Taggart that I have never seen. There are histories as well.

Hatch Family Wiki

Since I don't know how to upload documents to a blog, I talked to Bill and then Tricia. Tricia set up a wiki where we can upload documents. If you want to post anything just ask to join it. Thank you to both Stacey and Tricia for lighting a fire and getting us going.

Another Picture of Bill and Beulah

These pictures were taken of Bill and Beulah when they graduated from the AC- Agriculture College. The AC is now known as Utah State University. Dad went on to Berkeley, UC-Berkeley, to get his Masters in Ag Economics. He was his dissertation short of his PhD. He felt he needed to start working to support his family. He started working for the Department of Agriculture in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Another Miles family photo

This photo was at the DUP museum.  I really like it because it shows the Miles sisters as young women.  I think they are beautiful.  I also like this picture because is shows what Lucretia Wightman and William Allen Miles looked like.

Grandma & Grandpa Hatch (Bill & Beulah)

I have so many pictures and histories to share.  The problem is they aren't scanned yet.  But maybe I can work on a little each week.  I love family history!!  I love collecting pictures and histories and spent quite a bit of time 10+ years ago at the DUP museum in downtown SLC.  I have also collected pictures from my mom.  So, that's the main source of my collection.

Here are some younger pictures I have of Grandma and Grandpa (Bill & Beulah).  I don't think I've seen a young picture of Grandma & Grandpa together.

The Wightmans and the Miles

Our family comes through Lucretia Anna Wightman, the young lady on the left. She married William Allen Miles. They had seven daughters. I remember that Grandma loved hats. I think her sisters did as well. Grandma was right in the middle of the family. I love the old picture of her in the stroller. Bill made these copies and sent them to all of us. The girls went by Aunt Donna, Aunt Matt, Aunt Rine (pronounced Reen), Leone, Aunt Cre, Aunt Bill, and Aunt Ruby. Most people in Idaho Falls knew Grandma as Mary L., but her sisters called her Leone or Leona. A side note, when William Allen Miles, it may have been Lucretia as well, had daughter number six, they called Mildred 'Bill,' because they wanted a son.

The Miles

This is a pedigree chart done in Aunt Bill's, Mildred Miles Dillman, hand writing. It is of the Miles ancestry. Note that we are related to Roger Williams. Aunt Bill is Mary L. Hatch's sister and very much into genealogy and Indians. Lagoon has many of her things displayed. I remember visiting her in Hawaii on our way back to Iran. It would have been January 1959. Her husband, Uncle Ray, was the temple president there.

One more on the Mayflower

These are the documents that Mom had.

Henry Ray Hatch

This is a clipping, circa 1951, of H. Ray Hatch

Thought you might be interested.

The back is as interesting as the front for a slice of advertising in the early 1950's.

Same vintage

These are some of the old pictures Jane found. One of them is Grandma Hatch, Mary Leona Miles Hatch, in Switzerland in 1958. The others are of the rest of us of various ages in various countries and also in Yellowstone. Bill is standing in front of the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen in 1958. Mom (Beulah), Bill and Jane are on the walk in Yellowstone. Notice the Capris. We called them pedal pushers - they were worn while riding bikes. Jane and Pat are on the donkey. Pat and Sylvia are on the walk in Yellowstone. Val, Sylvia, Jane and Pat are in front of doors to the Forum in Rome Dec. 1955. Bill and Pat are chasing the peacock somewhere in Europe, in 1958.

The pictures taken in Europe in 1958, were taken when we were coming home from Iran on home leave. Grandpa and Grandma Hatch, H. Ray and Mary Leona, met us in Switzerland and then toured Scandinavia with us. It looks winter in Switzerland, but it was in the Spring.
